Social Security Number
In Spanish known as Número de la Seguridad Social (NUSS) is the Social Security identification number assigned to every individual. In addition to the general identification number (NIE), a separate number is required to be registered with Social Security. Once assigned, the NUSS is permanent and never changes. It is mandatory if you wish to receive a pension, subsidy, or any benefits from Social Security. It is also necessary to apply for public health insurance. When a person starts working for the first time, the NUSS becomes the Número de Afiliación (NAF). In short, the NUSS serves as a general identification number, while the NAF is a specific identifier used for employment and Social Security purposes.
