« Back to Glossary Index

An invitation letter is an official document that allows a resident in Spain to invite a non-EU national to the country. The invited person can stay in Spain for a maximum of 90 days. This letter is issued by the immigration office of the national police, and an appointment is required.

The host has to provide accommodation for the guest and cover the costs related to their stay in Spain. Therefore, the host has  to show a valid rental agreement or demonstrate that he or she formally owns a property. The original invitation letter has to be sent to the guest, as it is required for visa application or border control.
