« Back to Glossary Index

Also known as padrón, the empadronamiento is the official municipal registration in Spain, certifying a person’s place of residence and serving as proof of address. It is issued at any OAC (Oficina de Atención al Ciudadano), which translates to Citizen Service Office and is managed by the local town hall (Ayuntamiento). You can find a lot of OAC offices around Barcelona city. Being registered (empadronado) is essential for accessing public services such as healthcare and education.

The procedure is free of charge, but if you are not sure where to go or how to process your empadronamiento, you can get in touch with NIE Barcelona.
